# How to Update the Arist Slack App

The Arist Slack app has been updated to deliver training via dedicated channels,
providing a better learning experience for your team. This guide walks you
through updating your existing Slack integration.

WHAT'S NEW

The updated Arist Slack app introduces channel-based delivery, which means:

 * Each learner receives course content in dedicated, private Slack channels

 * Learners can have multiple concurrent courses, each in its own channel

 * Course content is organized and easier to navigate

 * Archived channels can be reviewed later

WHO NEEDS TO UPDATE

If you currently use Arist's Slack integration and want to take advantage of
channel-based delivery, you'll need to follow this update process.

PREREQUISITES

 * Admin role in your Arist organization

 * Admin permissions in your Slack workspace

UPDATE PROCESS

STEP 1: NAVIGATE TO ORGANIZATION SETTINGS

 1. Log into your Arist organization with an Admin account and click on your
organization name in the top left

 2. Select Organization settings from the dropdown menu

STEP 2: ACCESS DELIVERY METHODS

 3. In the left navigation menu, click on Delivery methods

 4. Scroll to the Slack section

STEP 3: ACCEPT PERMISSIONS

 5. As a Slack administrator, click the "Install the Arist app to your
workspace" link. You'll see a permission request screen showing what Arist
    needs access to:

 6. Click Allow to authorize the updated integration.

Important: You must have Admin permissions in your Slack workspace to complete
the setup. If you don't, your Slack Space Admin will need to accept the
permissions.

STEP 5: VERIFY THE UPDATE

After successful approval, you'll be redirected to the arist.co
[http://arist.co] page in your browser.

 1. Log into your Slack workspace

 2. Go to Apps in the left sidebar

 3. Double-check that the Arist app is listed under installed applications

WHAT HAPPENS TO EXISTING ENROLLMENTS

Seamless Transition: Learners will not receive any messages that the app has
been updated. All active enrollments will continue in the Arist app without
interruption.

No Data Loss: All existing course progress, responses, and completion records
are preserved.

HOW IT WORKS

 1. Creating channels & enrollments

    * Admins can enroll learners in multiple enrollments in Slack at once.

      * When an enrollment is created, it will create a unique & private Slack
channel for each learner. The learner will be the only member of the
channel, outside of the Arist bot.

      * Because these channels are unique within your Slack workspace, the
naming of each channel includes the content name plus a handful of
unique characters. For example, a course titled “Conflict Resolution:
Leading Productive Meetings” may appear as
        conflict-resolution-leading-productive-meetings-e334161e

      * Nudges will continue to be sent via the Arist app in Slack.

    * Admins can use Arist channels to keep related enrollments in the same
      Slack channel.

      * For example, all enrollments assigned to a “Leadership Training” channel
would show up in the same Slack channel titled leadership-training-…

      * A channel can only have one active enrollment at a time. If an
additional enrollment is added to a channel, it will be queued until the
        active enrollment is completed.

 2. Engaging with content

    * Learners respond to content inside each channel.

      * Learners can reply in the channel itself or within threads to respond to
        questions.

 3. Archiving channels

    * When an enrollment is complete, learners will receive a message with an
option to archive the channel. There will be an additional reminder 30
days after the enrollment is completed.

      * Archived channels can be found later in a Slack workspace if a learner
        wants to retrieve the content.

      * Learners cannot leave or archive a channel with an active enrollment. If
they want to archive a channel before the enrollment is completed, they
must reply “STOP” to cancel the enrollment.

      * Learners also can’t archive channels that are tied to an Arist channel,
even if there are no active enrollments.

 4. Self-enrollment

    * To self-enroll in content, a learner can message the Arist app with a
4-digit code corresponding to a course or survey.
