# Pre-install Teams app for users

Pre-installation is important because most Arist learners receive content via
"push", instead of seeking out the app and registering for a course themselves.

You should already have created or identified an appropriate group
[https://help.arist.co/article/1094-how-to-create-or-identify-an-appropriate-microsoft-group-for-teams-app]
to use (M365 group or just default to all users).

Open your Teams admin center. Navigate to Teams apps > Manage apps > Setup
policies

 * If defaulting to all users, choose the Global Policy.

 * If using a group, we will create the policy first before assigning it to the
group. Create a new custom policy or choose an appropriate existing one.

In either case, your policy should look like the following screenshot. Ensure
Arist is under your "Installed apps". You can also optionally force the app to
be pinned under the "Pinned apps" section.

ℹ️ Arist v3 adds the "Arist Comms" application which sends messages via Chat
instead of the Teams Notification app. If installing the Comms app, ensure Arist
Comms is under your "Installed apps". You can also optionally force the app to
be pinned under the "Pinned apps" section.

To apply a custom (non Global) policy to a set of users, find the "Group policy
assignment" tab on the App setup policies page, which might look like this in
the middle of the page:

From there, you can select the M365 group, apply it to the policy, and select an
appropriate rank. Note that a single user can have multiple App Setup Policies
applied. Precedence rules are defined by Microsoft here
[https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/assign-policies-users-and-groups#precedence-rules].

Since it's possible for these policies to stack, and precedence rules are hard
to troubleshoot, you may need to add Arist as an Installed app to multiple
policies to be more confident that they will correctly apply to the relevant
users.

PROPAGATION TIME AND SETUP VALIDATION

After correctly configuring permissions and pre-installs, your Teams changes may
take some time to propagate. Arist estimates up to 72 hours to receive the first
event, and if there's a large number of events, they may be queued up at about
10,000 per day.
